Irrigation network in Ampara District to be renovated

Plans are underway to urgently start the renovation work of the irrigation network in the Ampara district.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that machines worth 100 Million rupees will be purchased this year to construct the canals that are connected to the Senanayake Samudraya. He said that the Ministry will seek the assistance of the farmers’ associations in this connection and the machines will be exclusively for the work in the Ampara district. In the first phase of the programme, the Senanayake Samudraya in Inginiyagala and the dam at Meegaha-pallawa in Damana will be renovated. The assistance of the farmers’ associations in Ampara will be sought in this connection. The Minister instructed the officials to expedite the construction work of the Rambakan-Oya Reservoir which is already underway. Minster P. Dayaratne was also present.
