President pays homage to Dalada Maligawa

The President paid homage to the historic Dalada Maligawa.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa who participated in the morning religious rituals of the Dalada Maligawa also paid homage to the Tooth Relic. Thereafter, he called on the Mahanayakes of the Asgiriya and Malwatte Chapters and received their blessings. The President informed the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter the most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera and the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera about the plans to develop Kandy as an environmentally friendly city, preserving its historic values. The President informed the Mahanayake Theras that views of the political leaders will be sought in connection with the city development. More than 100 billion rupees was spent on the development of the Central Province during the last four years. The President pointed out that 42 billion rupees out of the total amount was spent on developing the Kandy District. The President also inspected the road renovation work initiated in view of the Esala Perahera. Governor of the Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Chief Minister Sarath Ekenayake, Ministers, Parliamentarians and Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela were amongst those who participated in the occasion.
