Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram has told the Indian media today (1) after a meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi that an official of the Indian External Affairs Ministry will visit Sri Lanka in a week to see the progress of the rehabilitation works in the Tamil areas.
Chidambaram had had met Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence and had informed Karunanidhi of the Indian government’s decision.
“When we met last time, we discussed about rehabilitation works. Now, I informed him about the decisions taken on the issue,” he has said.
Besides collecting information about the progress of the housing scheme, the guidelines adopted by the Sri Lankan government for allocation of houses, the official is to also find out how many Tamils had left for their home from the camps.
Chidambaram has said the official would also assess the various works sponsored by the Indian government including renovation of the Palali Airport and the Kankasanthurai Port.
