The newly established Chamber of Commerce and Industry has formulated a comprehensive set of proposals to be implemented to develop the living standards of people in areas such as Arugambay, Pasikuda and Nilaweli.
The document containing proposals was handed over to Member of Parliament from Digamadulla, Sarath Weerasekera. These areas attract large numbers of foreign and local tourists and need development of infrastructure.
The document has proposed improving of infrastructure, keeping the environment clean and raising awareness in the public about the importance of tourism.
On receiving the proposals Parliamentarian Sarath Weerasekera said that he has requested the Chairman of the Tourist Board to appoint a Committee to recommend tourism development activities in the Ampara District.
He said that matter will also be taken up with Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaka and International Donor Agencies.
