The Department of Immigration and Emigration has issued instructions to the people to fill in the blanks provided in the inside cover of the passports when they go abroad.
The Controller of Immigration and Emigration has requested the people to consider it as a requirement as this information is important in an event of a death or an accident or misplacement.
He has also pointed out that this information is also important with regard to state defence. The Department of Immigration and Emigration has said that so far the owners of the passports have not been interested in filling these blanks.
The Immigration and Emigration officials at the Katunayake International Airport have been instructed to check these details in the passports. The Department has said that the passengers who have not provided this information in their passports may therefore face delays.
