The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) should be built as an institution affiliated to the public. This view was expressed by President Rajapaksa during a meeting with Transport Ministry officials.
The meeting between the President and Transport Minister Kumara Welgama and Ministry officials took place at Temple Trees. The President issued instructions on the initiatives that should be taken on behalf of the convenience of the commuters and streamlining long distance services. It is planned to obtain 500 new buses for the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
The President advised the Transport Minister to immediately secure 100 buses under the first stage. The President’s attention was focused on measures that should be taken to provide an efficient service to the public and the resolution of problems of workers. He wanted the elimination of shortcomings in all depots for the SLTB to be built as an institution more trustworthy for the people.
