For the first time this hurricane season, there’s a storm brewing that South Carolinians need to watch.
A tropical depression in the Atlantic is expected to reach named status Tuesday as Tropical Storm Colin. The five-day forecast from the National Hurricane Center has the storm sliding north of the Caribbean islands, curving north and staying well off-shore of South Carolina.
The forecast keeps the intensity at tropical storm status through five days, with winds peaking at nearly 60 mph on Thursday.
None of the major computer models puts the storm close enough to South Carolina to cause any impact other than high surf. The closest it comes in the five-day forecast is hundreds of miles east of the state Saturday.
