The Sevana Ranaviru Housing Programme gets underway in parallel to the building of houses for 1.2 million families.
It is a joint effort by the Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Houses and Common Amenities, the National Housing Development Authority and the Sevana Fund. The objective is to provide housing assistance to the tune of 100 thousand rupees to each family of a war hero killed or disabled in action during the humanitarian operations. Minister Wimal Weerawansa patronized in the granting of housing assistance to 110 selected families at Sausiripaya today.
The Minister said that if any good programme was to be undertaken, maybe a mega housing development project and if such a programme was to be mooted by conducting a Buddha Pooja, it is better to do so by providing houses for the war heroes. Before giving houses to others, the families of war heroes should be handed over houses. The Minister pointed out that they were going for a mega housing project by handing over houses to 116 families of war heroes. The work will be monitored by the National Housing Development Authority and Regional Officers. Finally they will receive a house with a value higher than they expected.
