Despite the troubled economy, charitable giving to the Medical University of South Carolina reached a record of almost $77 million in the last fiscal year.
Officials at the Charleston school said on Tuesday the figure for the fiscal year that ended June 30 represents an 8.2 percent increase over the previous year.
The contributions mean MUSC has surpassed the goal of a $300 million capital campaign announced in 2008.
The campaign reached its goal a year ahead of schedule. It now has almost $355 million in gifts and pledges.
