The progress review conference which draws attention to the future of youth of Commonwealth countries opened in Colombo today.
Minister Dulles Alahapperuma is serving as its Chairman. The meeting will continue until Friday. The previous meeting was held in April 2008 in Sri Lanka. The aim of the meeting is to prepare the Youth Affairs Strategic Plan of the Organisation. Deputy Minister Sarath Amunugama was the Chief Guest.
Delivering the keynote address, the Minister said that the Sri Lankan government was investing a colossal sum for health, rural development and youth welfare. The country has succeeded in improving the education of youth. It was a great challenge. However, the Minister pointed out that Sri Lanka has succeeded in setting the best example to the world by developing the youth, surmounting the challenges.
Youth Affairs Ministers and young Parliamentarians of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Barbados and Nigeria joined in the launching ceremony. The meeting will continue until Friday the 6th.
