The award for the best film at the Identita International Film Festival in Italy was won by the Sinhala film “Ira Handa Yata” of Bennet Ratnayake.
The Film Festival was held in Italy from last 27th to the 1st of this month. Themed on love and compassion, 60 films from different countries were selected for the festival.
‘Ira Handa Yata’ of Sri Lanka was adjudged the best film amongst them. It is for the first time that a Sri Lankan movie won an award at a Film Festival in Italy.
The story of the film is woven around two soldiers who met in a prison camp of the terrorists during the conflict that prevailed in the North and East.
The film won jury honours at the Los Angeles International Film Festival while a special award was won at the International Film Festival in Singapore.
The Film will represent Sri Lanka in the Pyongyang International Film Festival in Korea this month. The film features a number of veteran actors and actresses. It will be screened in Sri Lanka from 2nd September.
