Arrangements have been made to import the BTI bacteria dengue bacteria from Cuba. Minister Maithripala Sirisena revealed this at a discussion held on Dengue eradication.
The Minister said that when a drug or a chemical is being imported from one country to another a research has to be conducted and recommendations sought.
He said that financial arrangements for the import were made more than a month ago. It is expected that the bacteria would be dispatched soon.
He said that the responsibility in this connection lies with the Cuban Government. The bacteria is being imported under a pilot project. Only 10 thousand units that cost 260,000 US dollars are being imported on an experimental basis.
