A 12-year-old Columbia boy is in serious condition at Palmetto Health Richland after being struck by two vehicles, including a Columbia Police Department patrol car.
Juacqua Strothen was crossing North Main Street near Elmore Street when he was struck by a Crown Victoria being driven south on North Main by Columbia officer Leon Sealy, 61, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said.
The impact sent Strothen into the path of a northbound Ford sport utility vehicle driven by George Scott, 22, Jones said.
Strothen was taken by ambulance to the hospital. His injuries were characterized by the highway patrol as non-life-threatening.
WIS-TV reported witnesses saying Sealy's lights and sirens were not active and that the boy suffered a head injury.
