The proposed new scheme of recruitment at the National Water Supplies and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has come under sever criticism among the employees, General Secretary Water Supply and Drainage Employees Union Upali Ratnayake told The Sunday Leader.
Under the new scheme, the non professional employees have been deprived merit promotions where only the professionally qualified would receive promotions once it is implemented according to Ratnayake.
“Earlier even the non professional employees could reach the ‘top’ considering their talent and period of service but in the event the new scheme is implemented they all would be deprived of promotions in future,” added Ratnayake.
According to Ratnayake, due to strong opposition from the employees and trade unions the implementation of the proposed new scheme has now come to a standstill and a new committee has been appointed to check whether the merit promotions for the non professional employees would be hampered under the new scheme.
“The new scheme of recruitment is under scrutiny. The NWSDB employees are awaiting a favourable response from the committee failing which the trade unions are ready to get into trade union action to get their demands,” Ratnayake said.
