An Irmo man police say tried to run down two officers is under arrest after the early morning incident in West Columbia.
West Columbia police officers Jason Corley and Brian McDowell said they tried to stop a speeding, erratic driver on Meeting Street around 2 a.m. The driver stopped in the What-a-Burger parking lot but then sped off through the lot and hit the building and a fence.
The officers reported that the driver, identified as Hunter A. Reeser, 22, of Cabin Drive, then turned his car toward them. They opened fire on the vehicle, which drove between their two patrol cars and hit McDowell.
Reeser was injured by a bullet to the head but not killed.
Another officer, Sal Castellano, encountered Reeser at 1039 Meeting St. and chased him down on foot. The suspect was brought down with an electroshock device in the process of his arrest, the West Columbia Police Department said.
