The Government has warned that not a single person who evades paying taxes will be permitted to flee the country.

The Inland Revenue Department has collected a sum of more than 141 billion rupees as taxes last year. About 9.4 billion rupees more remains to be collected. The Deputy Minister pointed out that at the end of last year, the Department maintained over 765 thousand tax files.
Meanwhile Parliament today debated condolence motions on the death of former MP Piyadasa Harischandra and former Senator Dickson Silva.
