The President instructs officials to direct more attention in protecting the environment when the blue prints are prepared for future development activities.

President Rajapaksa chaired the progress review meeting of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management at Temple Trees. The President advised the irrigation officials to leave aside Forest Reserves in clearing forest areas for development projects. The meeting discussed in depth the projects mooted by the Ministry based on the “Mahinda Chinthana Extended Version.” The President said that the provision of water to small tanks and anicuts should be expedited. He stressed the importance of educating the farmer community in taking to natural energy resources

Another instruction given by the President to the officials was to accelerate the work on the Gin Ganga and Nilwala Ganga Schemes. He underscored the need to expediting reconstruction of tanks and anicuts ravaged by the terrorists and bordering the North and the East. Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva, Deputy Minister S.M. Chandrasena and Finance Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera were among those present at this progress review meeting.
