A luxury hotel is being constructed in Beruwala for the promotion of tourism industry.
The construction work on Chaya Bay Hotel was launched under the patronage of President Raapaksa this morning. The foundation stone was laid by Minister Basil Rajapaksa. The Hotel will be built in an area spanning 18 acres. The estimated cost is 2.4 billion rupees. The hotel is being constructed by John Keels and will have 200 rooms. The Government hopes to increase the number of rooms in luxury hotels to 35,000 with the increase in tourist arrivals due to the peaceful climate prevailing in the country. Only 14,800 rooms are available at present. A large number of Parliamentarians and Ministers participated in the occasion.
