Facilities provided for local as well as foreign tourists visiting the Udawalawe National Park have been enhanced. There are a large number of animals including Elephants within this national park.
Many local as well as foreign tourists also visit the park daily. An access route to the park from the Northern direction is now under construction. It will be 30 kilometres. Ancient tanks and places of religious worship within the park are being conserved in parallel to this programme. Construction work on office buildings on the new access route is nearing completion. The total cost of the project is 31 million rupees. The building of the new road will be beneficial to about 2000 families of many areas including Pollamura, Udagangoda and Belimaliyadde.
