A South Carolina coroner's office says a 72-year-old man drowned when he fell into a creek during a heavy rain.
Beaufort County deputy coroner David Ott told The Island Packet of Hilton Head that John Young Jr. had been attending a family reunion on a boat chartered out of Broad Creek Marina in the resort city Friday night.
About 100 people were on the boat that returned to shore when the storm rolled in. As the group rushed to their cars, investigators think Young slipped and fell in the creek. Ott says no one heard him fall because of the severe weather and no one noticed he was missing.
Young's body was found Saturday morning by a fisherman. The death has been ruled an accidental drowning.
