The UNP Working Committee which will convene on Wednesday will discuss taking disciplinary action against party members who publicly speak against the UNP Leadership, a senior UNP member told Daily Mirror online.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the UNP member said that lately there had been a lot of public events attended by senior UNP members, some of whom were parliamentarians, and these members had spoken against the party leadership.
Some of these members had even put themselves forward to take over the leadership of the party which is against party rules, the member added.
"This is not ethical. Whatever internal disputes we have should be sorted when the Working Committee meets or within the walls of the party headquarters. By speaking like this, they are brining further disrepute to the party," the senior UNP member said.
Speaking at public events within the past few months, several senior UNP members have called for a change in the UNP leadership and have even expressed support to some UNP MPs including party MP Sajith Premadasa.
