Indian assistance solicited for Sakvithi’s probe

Attention has been drawn to soliciting support from India to look into the frauds committed by Sakvithi Ranasinghe.

The CID had received information that Sakvithi Ranasinghe who had defrauded millions of rupees had returned to the island from India after hiding. Accordingly, informed sourced said that measures had been taken to seek India’s support in the inquiries. The investigations will be based on the confessions made about his past by Sakvithi Ranasinghe to the CID. Reports say that inquires are planned on persons he had maintained relations during the period he had stayed in India and on the passport he had received from India. He was arrested last Friday from the Koratota area in Kaduwela.

The Police said that inquiries have begun on the persons Sakvithi Ranasinghe had maintained links. The CID is continuously interrogating Sakvithi Ranasinghe.

In the meantime, the Gangodawila Chief Magistrate Anura Kumara Herath ordered to entrust the two children of Sakvithi Ranasinghe to the Probation and Childcare Department. The CID produced them before the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court. The CID requested the Magistrate to call for a Probation Report on the two children. Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered to call for this report on the17th of this month.
