IV administered drug for serious dengue patients

Dextran 40, a plasma expander – Intra Venus drug that expand plasma in dengue patients was brought to Sri Lanka from Thailand Sunday and has been distributed among tertiary care hospitals. The drugs saves lives of dengue patients who are serious, a Health Ministry spokesman said.
According to the spokesman WHO provided 300 units of the IV free of charge responding to a request by Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena. One thousand four hundred fifty more units will be brought shortly. IV is used in Sri Lanka at present as a plasma expander for dengue patients. The new IV will be used in addition to that, the spokesman said.
