1.6 million Fingerlings have been released to Reservoirs and tanks in the North.
The programme was launched to promote freshwater fisheries industry in the North. The National Aquaculture Development Authority said that 1.6 million fish fry were released to the reservoirs during the first six months of this year.
3.2 million rupees has been set aside for the programme. Fingerlings have been released to reservoirs in Akkarayankulam, Iranamdhu, Vannerikulum, Pawakkulum and Yodawewa.
The Fisheries Ministry has said that a programme has been launched to provide technology training for the fishermen in the North. 250 fishermen will be trained at the Kalaweva National Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Training Centre in the first phase.
