Pakistan has appreciated Sri Lanka’s assistance for the flood victims in the country.
As soon as news was received last week of the serious nature of floods in Pakistan, President Rajapaksa telephoned Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and assured Sri Lanka’s assistance.
Accordingly arrangements were made to dispatch a consignment of approximately 18 metric tons of dry rations. Accepting the donation sent by Sri Lanka, Coordinator for Flood Relief Operations in Pakistan Naimat Ullah said that this would strengthen the long standing friendship between the two countries.
Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in Pakistan Air Chief Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody handed over the relief items to the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office yesterday. The Flood Relief Coordinator pointed out that both countries have come forward to each other’s help in times of need.
