A South Carolina sheriff is helping citizens learn how to surf safely on the Internet.
Lexington County Sheriff James Metts on Tuesday is holding a 90-minute Internet safety course at the sheriff's department headquarters.
Organizers hope the free class will teach people how they can protect themselves from Internet scammers. There's also instruction on how to use databases to search public records, use social media networking sites and pay bills online.
Metts says another class is planned for Aug. 19.
