The Kandy Esala Perahera festival gets off the ground. The planting of “Kap” of the four Maha devales took place at the auspices times of 12.57 this afternoon.
The ceremony took place at the Natha, Vishnu, Pathini and Kataragama Maha Devales based on ancient traditions which date back to the eras of Kings. Among those present on this occasion were the Basnayake Nilames of the four devales as well as the officiating priests of the devales. The inner Peraheras of the four devales will be held from tonight until the 14th of this month. The Kumbal Perahera is scheduled to be held from the 15th up to the 19th. The Randoli Perahera will begin on the 20th and continue until the 24th. The historic Kandy Esala Perahera festival will conclude with the Day Perahera on the following day.
