Minister Wimal Weerawansa has said that the Government was mulling over reducing the bank interest rate levied on housing loans. The Minister said this initiative was planned on the instructions of the President.
Construction of One Million houses will begin next year. Minister Weerawansa said some houses will be allocated for homeless journalists from every housing scheme.
He pointed out that his intention was to launch a programme to provide houses for journalists. A certain percentage of all housing schemes will be set aside for them. Accordingly, within the next five to six years the target was to build one million houses.
The Minister was speaking at a media briefing organized at his Ministry. He revealed that the President has instructed the Engineering Corporation to manufacture special gutters which will prevent the breeding of dengue mosquitoes.
