The Drew Splash Pad, closed July 22 after being linked to several cases of the parasitic infection cryptosporidium, reopens today.
The water recreation center will remain open, along with the City of Columbia's two outdoor pools, through Labor Day. The pool at the Drew Wellness Center is open year-round.
The splash pad is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sundays.
So-called crypto is resistant to normal levels of chlorine disinfectant and can live for long periods of time outside the body, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It can enter pools through human waste.
