South Carolina's Largest Garage Sale, which will happen a month earlier this year, has found a permanent home at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
The city has made several changes to the popular event this year, including extending the sale by two hours and having the event Aug. 14 instead of in September.
The sale, held for 19 years in downtown Myrtle Beach, moved last year to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center after city engineers warned that the upper decks of the Pavilion parking garage on Eighth Avenue North and Kings Highway were not designed to hold thousands of people walking around.
Residents expressed disappointment when the change was announced, and the city said it would look for a way to get the sale back downtown.
"We looked hard for an option, but there wasn't enough space on the garage's ground floor," said city spokesman Mark Kruea. There are 130 spaces on the garage's bottom floor and 280 in the convention center.
