The lessons learnt and reconciliation commission met for the first time in Colombo today.
The commission headed by former Attorney General C.R. De Silva consists of seven members. The matters that are to be inquired by the Commission are the facts and circumstances that led to the failure of the ceasefire agreement that came into force between 1st February 2002 and 19th May 2009. The commission is scheduled to hand over its report to the President within six months. The former chief of the Peace Secretariat Bernard Gunatilake gave evidence before the committee today.
