Police Media Spokesman SP Preshantha Jayakody said that according to the information received, UNP Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake and the group of party activists were attacked at Beliatta by another group of UNP activists.
The Police Media Spokesman said that the Police received a complaint a few days ago that a house on Dickwella road at Beliatta was attacked, causing damage. He said that one vehicle and the house and property of the person who made the complaint were damaged. He noted that there is a political background to this incident as the one who lodged the complaint named four suspects, informing that the attack was due to a certain issue within the party. Further investigations are being carried out to take the culprits into custody.
Meanwhile, the supporters of Parliamentarians of Ravi Karunanayake said that they know as to whose supporters attacked them. Ravi Karunanayake had visited the Hambantota District to study the cause of the drop in UNP activities in the district. The Beliatta Police said that he faced the attack at about 9.00 pm when holding a discussion at the residence of a UNP activist after visiting Tangalla and Tissamaharama areas.
