The President has instructed the Livestock Ministry to strive to achieve the target of providing sufficient milk to the country by 2015.
The Ministerial Sub-Committee on food security and cost of living management met at the Temple Trees last evening under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The President advised the relevant officials to extend maximum support to strengthen dairy farmers and develop the local dairy products sector. He explained that this will create job opportunities for the youths. He also instructed them to urgently create a conducive environment for those who wish to enter the field. The President explained the feasibility of expanding the sector in the North and East as well. The commodity price in the market was also focused. The President issued instructions to launch a special programme to provide relief to consumers in the forthcoming Christmas season. Parliamentarians, Ministers and Senior Officials participated in the discussion.
