President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that it is the youth who can improve the image of the motherland.
Sri Lanka has once again become an independent country. In a special message issued to mark the International Year of the Youth, the President said that he relied on the strength of the youths to achieve this honourable freedom. He said that the best way to express gratitude to the young war heroes who laid down their lives in the war is by making the country the Miracle of Asia. He pointed out to the youth that today is the best day to start this journey devoid of narrow communal, religious and political differences while making use of the experience gained by the world.
In his message, Minister Dallas Alahapperuma said that in creating a country suitable for the 21st century the only asset Sri Lanka has is the force of the youth, their commitment and the skills. The inaugural ceremony to commemorate the International Year of the Youth will be held under the patronage of the President at the Sugathadasa Indoor stadium today.
