DNA parliamentarians Vijitha Herath and Ajith Kumara along with several other DNA members including a Southern Provincial Council member have been detained by the Galle Police following a protest held in the city a short while ago.
JVP politburo member K.D. Lalkantha who participated in the protest told The Sunday Leader that while the protest was tear gases twice by the Galle police, several DNA members were taken into police custody.
Herath and Kumara have been detained by the police when they had gone to secure the release of the party members in custody.
A DNA member, who is currently in the premises of the Galle Police said that Herath and Kumara were behind bars while DNA MP Arjuna Ranatunge was writing the complaint.
The DNA organized a protest in the Galle city today against what it called the anti democratic path taken by the government and to call for the release of party leader General Sarath Fonseka.
