President Rajapaksa has emphasized that the foundation of Buddhist Education should be preserved despite the modernization of education.
The President said that to make this country the Miracle of Asia strength has to be drawn from five sectors. Buddhist Education has an exclusive place in achieving this target. Universities should develop the physical as well as the intellectual aspect.
Then only educational institutes start to shine in the world. He said it is his belief that the development of children is the development of the nation. The Government is prepared to assist all sectors of the Universities that strive for improvement of knowledge.
The President expressed these views when he declared open the new building complex of the Sri Lanka Pali and Buddhist University in Homagama. There is a lecture hall, a library and an administrative complex.
The Pali and Buddhist University which was launched on the 22nd April in 1982 plays a vital role in promoting Pali and Buddhist education in Sri Lanka as well as in other countries.
Mahanayake of the Amarapura Nikaya the Most Ven. Davuldena Gnanissara thera and the Ven. Prof.. Ittedemaliye Indasara thera were among the members of the Mahasangha who were present.
