Only 36 percent of females register before taking up foreign jobs

Aug 13, 2010 5:37:53 AM - itnnews.lk

The Chairperson of the Child Protection Authority said that only about 36 per cent of females who leave the island for employment, register themselves as mothers who leave the children in the care of guardians.

CPA chairperson Anoma Dissanayake said that this neglect of registration with the relevant authorities has made the collection of information difficult in case of an emergency.

She said that to circumvent this problem of non-registration, a special desk it to be set up at the Bandaranaike International Airport where the mothers could provide details of their offspring such as under whose care they remain.

She said that registration, if carried out genuinely, would assist the CPA authorities in case of emergencies or complaints and would be of assistance to all parties concerned.
