Minister Basil Rajapaksa has said that the Hambantota Harbour is a mega project which will contribute many sectors of the national economy.
The Minister noted that while the Harbour is important to the shipping sector, it is also of much benefit to the Plantation, Agriculture, Services and construction sectors. It is also the first Harbour to be built in the country since gaining independence. The Minister pointed out that the Harbantota Harbour is also one of the Ports to be constructed on land
The Minister was speaking during an inspection tour of the Hambantota Harbour. The Minister’s intention was to monitor the construction work before the Harbour is being filled with water. Deputy Minister Jagath Pushpakumara and Chief Engineer of the Project Anil Hewa Geeganage joined the Minister in this visit.
