A public protest was staged in the Galle City condemning the attack on the Police Officers.
Members of the Civil Defence Force and many residents joined in the protest organized opposite the Galle Main Bus Stand, deploring the attack. The agitators who displayed banners queried whether this was JVP’s democracy.
Meanwhile, the Joint Trade Union Federation has deplored JVP members and certain leaders who took the law into their hands at the Galle protest. It has been reported that Police officers came under attack when they took action to enforce the law during a protest organized by the JVP in the Galle town obstructing the movement of traffic, hampering civilian life. Taking the law into the hands by storming into the Police Stations when the officers attempted to maintain law and order should be vehemently condemned. Convenor of the Joint Trade Union Federation Alavi Moulana, in a statement said there is no moral right for some parties to behave in such an unruly manner to achieve their ends.
