President Mahinda Rajapakse has given the authorization for the 1st court martial sentence on former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.
The First Court Martial which inquired into accusations made against Sarath Fonseka found him guilty on three counts. The First Court Martial examined cases relating to his alleged involvement in politics while in active service. As he was found guilty of the charges, the Court Martial sentenced him for a dishonourable discharge from rank. Thereafter, the verdict was directed to the President for ratification as he is the Commander in Chief. The Army Headquarters announced that the President had approved the verdict. The Court rescinded Sarath Fonseka’s ranks and medals.
