4600 to be trained as nurses

The Government is planning to train 4,600 nurses this year. 509 persons are selected for training from the Southern Province.

They had been given their letters of appointment. The event was held under the auspices of Deputy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera. Students who had been successful at the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in Bio Science have been selected for training. 150 from the Hambantota District, 167 from Matara and 190 from the Galle District are selected to be trained as nurses. They are to be imparted training at the Hambantota, Matara and Galle Nurses Colleges. The Handing over letters to trainee nurses took place at the Mahanaga Mandiraya in Hambantota. Many officials of the Health Ministry were present.
