What has in the recent decade turned out to be a benevolent gesture in the Royal Colombo Golf Calendar – is the setting a part of a Poya Day in August, for the holding of a golf tournament, with the sole objective of raising funds in the laudable cause for charitable purposes.
The origians of which was seen in the year 2004, when the club celebrated its 125th anniversary.
Golf for charity has sustained itself for the past six years and the seventh takes place this year Tuesday (Poya) August 24 at the RCGC.
This tournament came into being through the then captain, Kumar Boralessa, and the efforts of the committee. These details were made known to the media at a briefing held at the club on Tuesday, by the Captain of the RCGC, Ananda Jayasekera, who said the funds generated at this tournament will be in aid of the cancer society.
