Judge delays decision on District 2 election

A federal judge will rule Monday whether the city can hold a District 2 City Council election on Tuesday ? that is, unless the justice department rules first.
Four people ? three of whom live in District 2 ? are asking U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie to halt the city?s District 2 election, scheduled for Tuesday, because the city has not received the necessary approval from the justice department. City officials have asked for approval, but the justice department has 60 days to respond.
During a hearing tonight at the federal courthouse, Currie said she would wait until Monday to rule on the request so that will give the Justice Department time to make a decision.
