A new operation has been launched to prepare the youth for the development drive. It will be an impetus for the industrial sector and the employment sector.
Minister Dulles Alahapperuma said that during the first six months of this year all institutions coming under the Authority had provided training to 67,000. Of this, 27,000 had been trained by the officers. They prepared a plan to reach the target given by the President for their Ministry, as to where to the country’s vocational training should reach during next year. The Minister revealed that their intention is to increase the figure to 96,000 by the year 2015.
The Minister was speaking at a function organized at the “Nipunatha Piyasa” to mark the 15th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority. This authority makes a vital contribution in training skilled workers. The authority already has a number of vocational training institutes. The number of young men and women receiving training annually exceeds 30,000. Prizes and certificates were presented to Chairmen and Officials of the Vocational Training Authority appreciating their services.
