Today is the second day of the Kandy Esala festival. The City is crowded with devotees. There are also many foreign tourists who have flocked to Kandy.
A notable feature is the presence of devotees from remote areas including the North and East following the peaceful environment that is prevailing in the island. The route of the Kumbal Perahera which was limited only to two small streets in the environs of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, has been extended to facilitate the large crowds expecting to view the Perahera. A Police force comprising five thousand members has been deployed for the security of the City, in addition to the Army.
In the meantime, today is also the second day of the Annual festival of the historic Kandasamy Kovil in Nallur, Jaffna. The festival spans 25 days. Devotees from around the country are flocking to the Nallur Kovil to participate in the festival due to the peace established in the country.
