The Dengue eradication week has commenced. Many programmes are being launched countrywide to control the disease.

The Ministries of Health, Environment, Defence, Public Administration and Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government and Disaster Management have joined the countrywide programme in parallel to the Dengue eradication week. The general theme of the event is “Preparedness, Cleanliness, Safety, Awareness and Unity”. The first stage of the programme kicked off in Colombo.

Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa emphasized that everyone should be aware that it is not possible for any government or institution to do anything without public support. Although the disposal of garbage is one of their tasks, the Minister pointed out that cleaning the environment is not their responsibility.

The National Transport Commission has also embarked on a programme to eradicate Dengue. Its first stage commenced from the private bus stand at Bastian Mawatha in Colombo. The programme was launched throughout the day with the support of the Health Ministry.
