Opposition protests in the well oh the House resulted in parliament being adjourned for a few minutes today (17).
Parliamentarians from the JVP and UNP protested against the court martial ruling on DNA MP Sarath Fonseka.
The first court martial ordered Fonseka to be granted a dishonorable discharge from the Army for being engaged in political work while in active service.
President Mahinda Rajapakse on Saturday authorized the verdict of the first court martial.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe requested that all records of Fonseka’s first court martial be tabled in parliament.
He said that Fonseka’s democratic rights as well as parliamentary privileges have been infringed by the court martial verdict.
