India has released 16 Sri Lankan fishermen and four multi-day trawlers. Naval Media Spokesman Capt. Athula Senarath said that the Indian Coast Guard handed over the fishermen and the trawlers to the Sri Lanka Navy last night.
He said the Sri Lankan fishermen who were in the custody of the Indian authorities were handed over last evening. These 16 fishermen were arrested by the Indian Coast Guard. They were brought to the Sri Lanka Maritime boundary. The Sri Lanka Navy took charge of them and thereafter brought safely to the Kankesanthurai Harbour last night. These fishermen were from Trincomalee, Matara and Devundera areas. The Naval Media Spokesman said they were thereafter sent to their respective areas.
