A significant growth is recorded in investment projects which had been ratified by the Board of Investment.
The BOI pointed out that the increase in the number of investment projects during the first half of this year was 53 percent. There is a high demand for investment in Sri Lanka due to the peaceful environment prevailing in the island and political stability. Accordingly, the number of projects which received the nod of the BOI during the first six months of this year was 233. The number of projects launched last year was 152.
The total investment was 189,673 million rupees. Of this, foreign investments reached over 58,800 million rupees while the total local investments reached 130,837 million rupees. The number of jobs generated via investments in the period under review was over 27,000. Last year, the total number of jobs reached more than 17,000.
