Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has referred to a consensus reached with the United National Party on the future of the country.
Addressing a media conference today, the Minister opined that they had already reached an agreement with the UNP on the local Government polls before a constitutional amendment and the future of the country. The committee chaired by Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Minister Basil Rajapaksa had lengthy talks particularly on the local government polls. The President had talks with the Opposition leader on amendments that should be effected to the Constitutions.
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party will be commemorating its 59th anniversary next month. The Minister said that they have already made elaborate arrangements to mark the event on a grand scale. The Minister said the SLFP’s 59th Anniversary falls on the 2nd of next month. He revealed that the party played an outstanding role in politics. Its present and future roles will be announced at the anniversary convention.
